Station Clock Tea Party

Station Clock Tea Party

A couple of dozen people gathered at Great Malvern Station on Monday 21st June 2021 to enjoy a drink and a cake from Lady Emily Foley tea room and to listen to Michael Pritchard talk about the Civic Society Friends of Malvern Railways activities and the future plans for improvements to the station. As has been previous reported, the station clock has had its clockwork mechanism removed (because winding it required someone to use a ladder with the consequent needs for working at height qualifications), and replaced with an electric motor. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, one face of the clock is not currently showing the correct time.

There were also historic pictures of the station on display as well as the clockwork mechanism from the clock. It is planned to put the old mechanism on display in due course. This mechanism is well made and heavy although the hands are not original and apparently cheaply cut out. Not shown in the photographs of the clockwork mechanism are the pendulum and the second portion of the mechanism that drove the second face of the clock. A few photographs give a flavour of the morning.
