Midsummer Malvern has started!

Midsummer Malvern has started!

The opening ceremony of Midsummer Malvern 2021 took place at the Priory Park Bandstand on Saturday, 19th June 2021. Before and after the ceremony, we were ably entertained by the Michael MacCourt Jazz Quartet, a young ensemble who met at the Junior Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

We were welcomed by the President of The Malvern Civic Society, Dr John Harcup followed by the Mayor of Malvern, Cllr Nick Houghton. The Chairman of Malvern Civic Society, Andrew Huntley introduced the Midsummer Malvern programme and in particular the Moody Exhibition at Elmslie House and the Dudley Brook tree trail. Dr Stephen Whittle spoke briefly about Victor and Catherine Moody and what visitors to the exhibition might see. Dr Elizabeth Adlam of the Civic Society spoke about the Dudley Brook Project and the Dudley Brook Tree Trail. This was followed by Coun Cynthia Palmer, Chairman of the District Council and Catherine Laidlaw, Parks and Green Space Officer, MHDC talking about the District Council Plan for Priory Park. A member of the Friends of Priory Park talked about their work to support the Park. Finally Dr Harcup spoke briefly about the Malvern Spa Association.

In the evening a small reception was held for those lending artworks and staging the exhibition. A few photographs from this are shown below.

Full details of all the activities this week are on the Midsummer Malvern page.
