Coronavirus Update

Due to the pandemic, our programme for 2021 looks a little different this year.  Our talks will be given via Zoom until the Summer, our country walks will start in June and our local visits in July.  Coach tours may be offered in the Autumn, when Government guidance is clearer.  As in 2020, events this year may also be subject to change at short notice: for members, these changes will be notified in our newsletter; they will also be posted here on our website and those who have pre-booked for visits will be contacted individually.

We are an active society with a full programme of events throughout the year.

All talks, walks, visits and excursions are open to everyone, whether a member of the Society or not. Members do get a discount on some events and there are some member-only events as well. If you are thinking of becoming a member,  please click here.

Monthly Talks

We hold monthly meetings with speakers on a wide variety of topics. These are held on the second Friday of each month and begin at 7.30pm.  In the first half of the year, these are being provided via Zoom, at no charge; we will recommence talks at the Eden Centre, Grovewood Road, WR14 1GD (off Townsend Way), close to the Malvern Spa and Premier Inn, when it is safe to do so. At the Centre, refreshments are provided from 7pm and these are included in the charge of £2 for members and £4 for non-members.

Monthly Country Walks

There will be six Country Walks during 2021, taking place on a mixture of Saturdays and Thursdays during June to October and finally a post-Christmas walk on Thursday 30th December. The walks on Saturdays will start at 10am and  the Thursday walks will begin at 2pm. There will be a mix of demanding, moderate and relatively easy walks. There is no charge for participating in our walks and details of each walk will be given in the Society’s monthly email to members and on the website.  For further information, please contact Clive Rayment on

Local visits

Local visits usually take place in the afternoon, using your own transport (but please note that the Droitwich Tour in July will be an all-day visit).  Booking and payment should be done at least two weeks in advance to secure a place.

Weekly Town Walks

Our weekly walks around Great Malvern run from Easter to Autumn. The Society’s own guides lead the walks and they start from the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) at 10.30am on Saturday and Monday mornings. The fee is £5 per adult.  Tickets are available online from Ticketsource or directly from the TIC.  As group sizes are limited, booking in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment.  Note that TicketSource bookings close at noon on the day before the walks and there may be tickets available from the TIC when the TicketSource allocation has been sold.
For some years the Worcester-Malvern National Trust Centre and the Malvern Civic Society have arranged a yearly holiday likely to be of interest to their members.
Railway Visits

The Friends of Malvern’s Railway Group arranges occasional visits. The last trip was to the narrow gauge Brecon Mountain Railway on Saturday 14th September 2019.

And last, but not least, our annual civic week, Midsummer Malvern

Our civic week takes place in June each year and hosts a wide range of events for the community.  This year’s events will focus on mainly outdoor activities and a detailed programme will be issued in due course.
This year’s dates are Saturday 19th to Sunday 27th June.
