We are an active society with a full program of events throughout the year.
All talks, walks, visits and excursions are open to everyone, whether a member of the Society or not. Members do get a discount on some events and there are some member-only events as well. If you are thinking of becoming a member, click here.
We hold monthly meetings with speakers talking on a wide variety of topics. These begin at 7pm and are held in the Eden Centre, Grovewood Road, WR14 1GD (off Townsend Way), close to The Malvern (Spa) Hotel and Premier Inn. There is a charge of £2 for members and £4 for non-members — this includes refreshments before each meeting.
Monthly Country Walks
Our walks generally take place on the third Saturday morning of the months of March, April, May, June, July and September starting at 10am. However, this year there are two exceptions to this: a re-introduced Christmas/New Year walk on Saturday, 28th December, starting at 10am and, by popular demand, a shorter and less demanding mid-week walk, starting at 2.30pm on Thursday, 30th May. The latter is being introduced as something of a ‘trial’ and, if it proves popular, will be included in the 2020 programme. Details of each walk will be publicised in advance on the website and in the Society’s monthly email.
Local visits usually take place in an afternoon, using your own transport. The charge is £5 (£4 for the venue and £1 for the Society), unless otherwise stated. Booking and payment should be done at least two weeks in advance to secure a place. Final details are sent out by post.
Weekly Town Walks
Our weekly walks around Great Malvern run from Easter to Autumn. The Society’s own guides lead the walks and they start from the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) at 10.30am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The fee is £5 per adult.
For a number of years, Malvern Civic Society has arranged holidays to different parts of Europe jointly with the Worcester-Malvern National Trust Centre. Recent trips have included visits to Tuscany, Northern Spain, and Sicily. This year (11-17 July 2019), we are going to Holland, focusing upon its history and art. If you are interested in joining us on what we expect to be a most stimulating and enjoyable holiday, please look at the brochure, where you will find full details including a booking form.
The Friends of Malvern’s Railway Group is arranging a visit to the narrow gauge Brecon Mountain Railway on Saturday 14th September. The line, with Baldwin steam locomotives, climbs from Pant to the summit of the former Brecon and Merthyr Railway at Torpantau. The views of the Beacons are splendid.
And last, but not least, our annual civic week, Midsummer Malvern
Our civic week takes place in June each year and hosts a wide range of events for the community.
