Friends of Malvern’s Railway Group: Visit to the GWR Steam Museum and the preserved Swindon and Cricklade Railway
Sunday 29th September All day
The Friends of Malvern’s Railway Group is arranging a visit to the Steam Museum of the Great Western Railway and the preserved Swindon and Cricklade Railway on Sunday 29 September.
Both locations are in Swindon. The Steam Museum contains a fine collection of Great Western Railway locomotives (including Caerphilly Castle) and rolling stock, and tells the story of the railway works at Swindon. We shall have lunch at the museum café. The Swindon and Cricklade Railway is a section of the former Midland and South Western Junction Railway. Trains are expected to be hauled by GWR tank locomotive 6695. During the visit, we hope to be given a tour of the railway’s workshops and their museum about the history of the line.
Travel to Swindon will be by car. David Gowan will be happy to provide details (e-mail david.gowan@btinternet.com tel 01684 778129 or 0776 441 2730), and will co-ordinate car sharing.
Participants will purchase their own entry tickets individually on arrival at the museum and preserved railway.
