2025 AGM. A good year.

2025 AGM. A good year.

Malvern Civic Society AGM was held on 14 February 2025. Acting Chair Michael Pritchard reported to a large audience on an encouraging number of new members, a busy and popular visit programme, large audiences for the monthly talks, a successful newly re-launched social programme, and the always attractive walks in town and country. MCS had also supported the historic Donkey Shed restoration, the Midsummer Malvern Lecture and the Community Day in Priory Park. Plaques included one in The Lees marking the spot where the Hadron Collider had its origins. Did you know that this huge breakthrough in particle physics all started in our town? Finally MCS helped to provide an opportunity to repurpose the former Malvern Hills College for educational purposes, a matter on which we wait the outcome. Future action envisages help for the Theatre of Small Conveniences and possible support for a sensory garden at Malvern Community Hospital. All this thanks to MCS volunteers giving their time “Caring about Malvern”.

The AGM was followed by a talk from Jackie Harris of the World Wetlands and Wildlife Trust (WWT), which was founded by Sir Peter Scott to create a world where healthy wetlands enrich all our lives. She described how wetlands worked, and their increasing importance both here and overseas in combating flooding and capturing carbon – more carbon is stored in wetland than in a forest. A stimulating talk and much appreciated by the audience
