DESCRIPTION:To be given by Faith Renger. \n\n\n\nMalvern’s home front was far from dreary in the opening weeks of the war. Initial hysteria led to some strange phenomena. Hear about the complaints from disgruntled visitors and locals about the dearth of entertainment and feeding bread to the ducks in the park\, but mostly about the bravery of the local boys fighting abroad and how women so often bore the brunt of the poverty and hardships at home. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 7.00 pm for a coffee before the meeting.

SUMMARY:Friends of Malvern's Railway Group: Visit to the GWR Steam Museum and the preserved Swindon and Cricklade Railway
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Malvern’s Railway Group is arranging a visit to the Steam Museum of the Great Western Railway and the preserved Swindon and Cricklade Railway on Sunday 29 September. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImages courtesy of National Railway Museum \n\n\n\n\nBoth locations are in Swindon.  The Steam Museum contains a fine collection of Great Western Railway locomotives (including Caerphilly Castle) and rolling stock\, and tells the story of the railway works at Swindon.  We shall have lunch at the museum café.  The Swindon and Cricklade Railway is a section of the former Midland and South Western Junction Railway.  Trains are expected to be hauled by GWR tank locomotive 6695.  During the visit\, we hope to be given a tour of the railway’s workshops and their museum about the history of the line. \n\n\n\nTravel to Swindon will be by car.  David Gowan will be happy to provide details (e-mail  david.gowan@btinternet.com tel 01684 778129 or 0776 441 2730)\, and will co-ordinate car sharing. \n\n\n\nParticipants will purchase their own entry tickets individually on arrival at the museum and preserved railway.

DESCRIPTION:Following Ali Capper’s popular talk in ’23\, this walk and tour will be guided by Ali or an expert team member. Set in the beautiful rolling Worcestershire countryside\, we will see both hops and apples being harvested and we hope to see the process of the hops being separated from the vine\, laterals and leaf. There’s also an opportunity to taste the results of previous harvests at The Brewery (at own cost). Note: What we see will depend on the timing of harvesting. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOwn transport / car share.
