Dr Gillian White gave us an excellent talk in January 2020 on the topic of THE ELIZABETHAN COUNTRY HOUSE. This time she is going to talk more specifically about BESS OF HARDWICK AND HARDWICK HALL.
Bess of Hardwick is one of the most fascinating women of the sixteenth Century and her most famous building, Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire, survives as a fine example of Elizabethan creativity, magnificence, and pride. This talk outlines Bess’s remarkable life and then explores the architecture and, contents of Hardwick Hall, surely her lasting monument.
Dr Gill White formerly worked for the National Trust as a curator/collections manager at Hardwick Hall. She now works as a freelance lecturer and teaches at Oxford and Leicester.
The College’s latest Risk Assessment has requested all users of College property to have a Lateral Flow Test prior to using the room and we are asking that you comply with this if possible.
The other Covid 19 precautions include:
- Please do not come to the Talk if you feel unwell or suspect that you might be infectious.
- Please consider the wearing of masks during the talk.
- There will be hand sanitation available for your use.
- Please socially distance as far as it is possible.
