St Anne’s Chapel Glass Renovation
The Priory has the finest collection of English 15th and early 16th century medieval glass outside York Minster. The stained glass windows in the South side of St. Anne’s Chapel in the Priory were created around 1480 and depict stories from the Old Testament.
They are a national treasure, but sadly are in desperate need of cleaning and restoration, due to constant exposure to the elements.
It has been decided to restore and protect one of these Medieval windows together with its surrounding stonework, at an estimated cost of £150,000. This will be part of a much larger Priory Development project to restore even more of the Priory’s heritage together with re-ordering the interior of church to make it much more accessible for everyone.
The Friends have committed to support this initial window restoration project.
Any donations from the Guided Tours will be in aid of the Windows’ Fund and visitors are encouraged to join the Friends to share in the continuing commitment.
