We meet at the Greenman Pub in Fownhope to which we return for lunch after the walk (Post code HP1 4PE). The pub has an excellent lunch menu. From here we follow tracks and field paths to the cottage at, the now defunct, Mancell’s Ferry. We continue along an especially scenic stretch of river and ascend gradually to reach the Wye Valley Trail, with its outstanding views. From Caplers Camp iron age hill fort we descend to the river and loop back to Fownhope.
This walk is not recommended for dogs because of the livestock around and about.
The walk is roughly 5 miles, described as easy to moderate with some steep climbs and the estimated time needed to complete the walk is 3 hours. It is recommended that you bring a snack/drink for a mid-walk break. Strong walking boots are recommended.
The walk is being led by Bob Baldwin.
