Where to park and meet?
We meet at the Malvern Hill Trust (MHT) car Park in Upper Beacon Road – WR14 4EH. Cost of Parking is £4.60 for the day, payable by card, if you don’t have a MHT Parking Permit. Other MHT car parks available and not too far away are; Lower Beacon Road – WR14 4EQ and Plateau car park on Jubilee Drive – WR13 6PL. Alternatively, you could always catch a 675/676 bus from Rosebank Gardens to Upper Wyche and back but check if the service is running on 30th December.
Where does the walk go, estimate of difficulty and recommended footwear?
After leaving the car park we will head off towards the Worcestershire Beacon at a steady but relaxed pace. We are not planning on beating any records but just enjoying the views, the company and the anticipation of our lunch at The Wyche Inn. If we have the time, we may take in Sugar Loaf Hill, Table Hill or possibly North Hill but only if we can get this done in two hours! We don’t want to be late for our lunch which will be at 12.30 for drinks and sitting down to eat at 1pm.
As you probably know it will be quite a climb, on established foot paths, to The Beacon and more of a challenge on the other hills. Overall I would rate the walk as “moderate” and would recommend stout walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing unless we are faced with unseasonably warm weather. If it has been wet some of the footpaths may be muddy and slippery. There are no styles on this walk.
If conditions are too icy or it’s very windy (or both) we will probably have to cancel the walk but we will not be put off by rain!
Approximate distance and estimate of time needed to complete walk?
Distance will be flexible; we don’t want to be walking for more than two hours (it is Christmas week after all).
Are dogs welcome?
Well controlled dogs would be welcome both on the walk and in the pub. Please note, there will be livestock in some of the areas we walk through where dogs must be kept on the lead.
Arrangements for Lunch?
Lunch is being arranged at The Wyche Inn, on the Wyche Road, just down from the car park where we are meeting.
